Lectora Player Skins

Getting Started with Lectora Skins and Layouts

This tutorial will help you get started with Lectora skins and layouts.

Here are some details on various parts of the skins:

Title Level Buttons
Course Menu – When clicked, the user of your published title is taken to the Course Menu page in the Course Content chapter.

Replay – When clicked, the title is briefly redirected to the Replay Page. The Replay page contains an action that returns the title back to the page where the Replay button was clicked and, as a result, the content page is reloaded into the computer’s memory. All actions, audio, video, etc. begin at their start positions for that page.

Course Glossary -  When clicked, the title is redirected to the Course Glossary page.

Course Links – When clicked, the title is redirected to the Course Links Library page.

Course Help – When clicked, the title is redirected to the Course Help page.

Close – When clicked, the title attempts to close the browser window in which the published title is displayed.

Back – When clicked, the title returns to the previous, linear course content page. Two actions have been added to this button. The first action sets a user-defined variable to zero when this button is clicked. The second action simply redirects the title to the Course Menu page.

Next – When clicked, the title continues to the next, linear course content page.

Course Content Pages
First page – This page has been setup as the default first page of the title. (See Inheritance, First Page.)

Course Menu (home page) – This page is reserved for laying out hyperlinks to the pages within title’s Course Content chapter. Lectora users may layout this page any way they wish, but they should limit the Course Menu layout to this single page only. NOTE: A 1 pixel by 1 pixel transparent image has been placed on this page at position 0,0 to facilitate hiding the title level Next button. An action has been placed with this image that hides the title level Next button when the image is loaded (shown) and other variable conditions have been met. DO NOT delete this image or your Course Menu navigation may not operate as designed.

Last page – This page has been setup as the default last page of the title. (See Inheritance, Last Page below.)

Non-Content Pages
NOTE: All Non-Content pages are placed outside of the the Course Content chapter and, by design, are not within the linear navigation structure of the title.

Course Glossary – This page is reserved for the title’s glossary. If a glossary is not part of the final course structure, delete the Course Glossary button. If the Course Glossary is too large for a single page, additional pages may be added. Page navigation between additional glossary pages will need to be added by the course developer.

Course Links Library – This page is reserved for the title’s external links and documents. If a link library is not part of the final course structure, delete the Course Links button. If the Course Link Library is too large for a single page, additional pages may be added. Page navigation between additional glossary pages will need to be added by the course developer.

Course Help – This page is reserved for the title’s help documentation. If help documentation is not part of the final course structure, delete the Course Help button. If the Course Help content is too large for a single page, additional pages may be added. Page navigation between additional glossary pages will need to be added by the course developer.

Replay Page – This page contains an action that automatically returns the title to the page where the Replay button was clicked. The action is set to run at 0.1 seconds after the page is loaded. The sequence of button clicks and actions occurs quickly enough that the user of the published title will briefly experience a blank page displayed before returning to the page calling the Replay page.

Back Button for Non-Content Pages – The Back button for Non-Content pages (and the Course Menu page) is setup to act like the back button in a web browser. As the title keeps track of your page history, this button, when present and clicked, will direct the title back to the previous page in the page history. For example, if page 11 or your title is the page currently being viewed and the user clicks the Course Help button, the title level Back button is replaced by the “history” Back button. When clicked, the title is directed away from the Course Help page and back to page 11.

Inheritance
First page – Because there is no page in the title that preceeds this page, the Back button found at the title level is excluded from this page.
Properties > Inherit > Exclude inheritance of certain objects

Course Menu – The title level Back button has been excluded from this page and a “history” Back button and an action has been added. (See Back Button for Non-Content Pages.)
Properties > Inherit > Exclude inheritance of certain objects

Last page – This page is designated as the last page in the course content and therefore it is necessary to exclude the Next button at the title level.
Properties > Inherit > Exclude inheritance of certain objects

Non-Content Pages chapter – The title level Next and Back buttons have been excluded from this chapter. The Back Button for Non-Content Pages has been added to this chapter for page history navigation. (See Back Button for Non-Content Pages.)
Properties > Inherit > Exclude inheritance of certain objects
