Starting a Roleplay Environment from a Template

Instead of starting from a blank page or writing an AI prompt, you can now launch a new environment from a library of pre-built scenario templates. Each template arrives fully written - title, description, learner goals, AI persona, opening line, difficulty, and time limit - so picking one, tweaking it, and publishing takes under a minute.

Templates are a great starting point if you're new to building environments, or if you just want a credible example to edit from rather than a blank canvas to fill in.

Creating an Environment from a Template

1. Go to Environments and click Create Environment.
2. The Create Environment dialog now offers three paths:
   • Start from a Template (recommended) - launches the template gallery.
   • AI-Assisted Authoring - generates a complete environment from your own prompt.
   • Blank Canvas - opens the editor empty for manual authoring.
3. Click Start from a Template. The template gallery opens.
4. Browse or search. Use the search box to match by template name, persona role, or skill, or use the category filter chips to narrow the list.
5. Select a template to preview it. The preview shows the category, the AI persona (photo, name, and opening line), the learner goals, and the time limit - so you know what you're getting before anything is created.
6. Click Use this template to create a draft environment seeded with the template's content, and you'll land straight in the editor. Click Cancel to close the preview without creating anything.

The new environment starts in Uncategorized and uses your account's own performance-metric rubric, exactly like a manually created environment. Nothing is inherited from the template except the seeded content.

What's in the Template Library

14 templates ship at launch, spanning six categories:

• Sales: Lead with the Business Problem · Negotiate Price with Procurement · Cold-Open with a Skeptical CFO
• Customer Success: Defuse a Feature-Gap Objection · Save an At-Risk Renewal
• Contact Center: Handle an Inbound Service Call · Address a Billing Complaint · Calm an Angry Caller
• Leadership: Coach a Capable Employee · Deliver Difficult Performance Feedback · Address a Safety Shortcut
• Onboarding: Run a New-Hire First 1:1
• Life Sciences: Detail a Product to a Skeptical Physician · Handle an Off-Label or Adverse-Event Question

Each persona has its own preset photo and voice, so every scenario feels like a distinct character rather than a reskin of the same default. Persona responses default to brief, natural turns of about 30 words - closer to how a real person talks in a call or a coaching conversation - though a persona will still give a longer, more detailed answer if a learner explicitly asks for one.

Templates in Your Language

If your account is set to one of Roleplay's 13 supported non-English languages, template content - title, description, goals, persona, and greeting - comes through fully localized, including the AI persona's spoken responses during a session. Anything not yet translated falls back cleanly to the English original rather than showing blank or broken content.

After You Create It

Once created, a template-seeded environment is a normal environment like any other:

• It's editable, publishable, and scored exactly like an environment built manually or with AI-Assisted Authoring.
• It is not linked back to the template it came from. There's no indicator anywhere in the environment showing it started from a template - it behaves identically to one built any other way.
• Because Difficulty and Time Limit already come filled in, a new template-based environment can be published immediately - there's no required field left empty to block you.
• If the template library changes later, it has no effect on environments you already created.
