What SCORM attributes are passed to an LMS from The Training Arcade?

The Training Arcade® SCORM packages pass completion status, score (as a percentage), session time, and learner ID to the LMS. Read more below.

Regardless of SCORM version (1.2, 2004 3rd Edition, or 2004 4th Edition), The Training Arcade® SCORM packages pass the following core data to the LMS:

  • Completion Status: complete or incomplete, with complete only sent when the game’s passing threshold is met
  • Score: Expressed as a percentage (0–100%) of [puzzles answered correctly]/[total possible puzzles]; does not reflect game score
  • Time in Session: Extrapolated from the time between session initialization and termination
  • Learner Name and ID (email or other unique user identifier): Pulled from the LMS for session registration

The following information is only communicated when using SCORM 2004 (3rd Edition or 4th Edition):

  • Success Status:: passed or failed, based on the threshold set in the Game Builder
    • Passed messages are sent when the passing threshold is met
    • Failed messages are sent on game over (if that option is enabled, otherwise not sent)

Also note the following:

  • Fail messages are sent only if the setting to send them is enabled.
  • There is no difference in the  data passed between SCORM 2004 3rd and 4th Editions for our use case. This option exists to allow functioning with LMSes that require 4th Edition.
  • Changing SCORM-related settings for a game does not require downloading a new SCORM package. These settings are pulled from The Training Arcade platform when the game is launched.
  • Changing SCORM editions does require downloading a new package.
